Albert W. Ketelbey wurde in Birmingham, England, geboren. Auf Empfehlung von Sir Edward Elgar bekam er ein Stipendium für die Music School of Trinity College in London. Ketelbey wurde zur Leitfigur der englischen Unterhaltungsmusik („British Light Music“) in der ersten Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts neben Eric Coates. Er arbeitete in leitender Funktion bei der Columbia sowie als Cheflektor beim Musikverlag Chappell. Ketelbey war aber nicht nur als Komponist, sondern auch als Dirigent, u. a. des Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam, in ganz Europa erfolgreich.
